Julie puts a spark of new life into the Lodge of Harmony tracing boards

Time-worn and ‘tired’ tracing boards from the Lodge of Harmony in Boston have been given a new lease of life by the owner of Art4Restore in Chesterfield.

Lodge DC Tiny Clifton said: “The Lodge of Harmony Tracing Boards, which may well be over two hundred years old, and we thought it was time to bring them back to their original splendour. They were faded, some paint was lifting, there was slight damage and scratches to some of the artwork, the backs were cracked and held together by parcel tape, and the frames were just thin black plastic picture framing.

“Taking the best part of three months to complete the work, restorer Julie managed to repair the damage, flatten back the majority of the paintwork, clean and fill in the missing areas, fit new backs, put on a sealant UV protective coating and finally fit new oak frames with a gold insert to complete the job.”

Julie said: “I have been pleased to be trusted to do this work on behalf of the Freemasons and hope the boards last for many years to come.” The pictures above shown the boards in their ‘before and after’ state.
