Was it all Greek to me? Well, not entirely… (Now updated with Greek response!)
June 25, 2022Two Grimsby Freemasons who were present at the 100th meeting of St Albans Lodge have this week attended its 150th anniversary celebrations – and presented a new Bible cushion for use by the Lodge.
W Bros Peter Taylor and George Evans were the donors of the beautifully-embroidered cushion, which was dedicated by the PGM Dave Wheeler.
Peter, who was initiated into St Albans Lodge in June 1964, then spent a few moments recalling his memories of the long association he’d had with the Lodge, which was consecrated in 1870. He said: “The biggest surprise at my initiation was to see that my father-in-law was a member. The Lodge had gone to great lengths to keep that from me.
“At the 100th anniversary I little imagined that I would be here 50 years on at the senior member of the Lodge. This is time for looking back. I don’t recall one night, but many happy memories and lots of wonderful friendships. Through Freemasonry and membership of this Lodge I have met lots of magnificent characters who have made a great contribution to my life.”
He proposed as a joining member George Evans, and who became a member at the 100th anniversary meeting in April 1970. He had been initiated into Freemasonry into the Stamford Raffles Lodge in Singapore. Said Peter: “That is a vivid reminder of our Masonic brotherhood and the worldwide nature of Freemasonry. St Albans Lodge has a bright future, and I’d like to think it has a bright future, and that some of the brethren here tonight will be able to attend the 200th meeting.”
In a surprise addition to the presentation, Dave Wheeler also gave the Lodge a hand-crafted Provincial gavel made by Bro Edwards, a member of St Hugh Lodge. (see picture inset).
