Defibrillators mounted outside Lincolnshire’s 21 masonic buildings have already been used in three real life emergencies – and the first of a series of courses run to broaden the number people with hands-on experience of using them have taken place.
Run by LIVES – Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Services – at the Nightingale Rooms in Lincoln 15 members from the city’s lodges took part in the first training session for the Province, rolling out AED and CPR awareness training.
Barton-based Phil Spicksley, who is responsible for the Defibrillator project and is organising the training was on hand to speak to members before travelling to Horncastle for the day’s second session this time attended by 11 members. Phil said: “Defibrillators have been fitted outside all Masonic Centres throughout the Province, and it is intended that all centres will receive training sessions by LIVES trainers during the next three months.
“It is important that all lodges and progressive degree members support this initiative. Lodge secretaries will be circulating future dates for each centre, snd I”d urge as many people as possible to take time to attend and receive this valuable information; it could save a brother’s life.”
All centres will be visited this year, and this will be followed by a rolling programme of follow-up training. Dates will be published in due course.
