Freemasons are being urged to be on their guard against increasing threats from scammers, and to look out for elderly friends who may be more vulnerable.
A number of reports of attempted fraud have been received, all attempting to appear credible by using trusted names in Freemasonry.
The United Grand Lodge of England warns: Please be aware of the following common scams:
- Fake websites which use the name of well-known suppliers of Masonic Regalia and Jewels. If ordering online, please double check that you are using the official website of your supplier.
- Emails which claim to be from Rulers contacting individual Freemasons about a legacy.
- Requests on social media to candidates for Initiation, or members of the public, asking them to pay a joining fee to someone they have not met.
