A Freemason whose wife died of cancer has helped to present a donation to the Butterfly Hospice. Mike Holmes’ wife Barbara was cared for by the Boston-based Hospice in 2018, which is why Mike wanted to be part of the presentation of funds from the Freemasons’ charity the Masonic Charitable Foundation.
Lincolnshire’s Provincial Charity Steward Pete Tong said: “This donation of £330 is a relatively small one, but we need to remember that every donation helps to provide a caring service that any one of us could need at some point in our lives.”
Mike said: “The Butterfly Hospice deserves our support it provides an excellent facility for everyone at a time of most need. Staff there not only cared for my wife Barbara, but also cared for me and ensured I was comfortable in my own mind that everything possible was being done. I am very pleased that the MCF has been able to support the people who supported me.”
This donation was accepted by Bridget MacPherson, Chief Executive Officer of The Butterfly Hospice Trust. She said: “The support of local organisations and funders enables Butterfly Hospice in Boston to keep its doors open to those who need our service – be it in palliative care, for symptom-control or at end of life.
“Our patients and their families deserve individualised, specialist care from our wonderful nursing team. We also extend our thanks to our partners, Lincolnshire Community Health Service for the excellent service they provide at the hospice.
“It has been heart-warming to receive a donation from the Masonic Charitable Foundation, but meeting Mike Holmes in happier circumstances makes it all the more special for the staff team. We thank the Freemasons for awarding this sum to our charity; it will truly make a difference to our families and their loved ones.
The MCF has been a long-time supporter of the hospice movement, giving £13.4m since 1984.
