Are you a Lincolnshire Freemason who’s gone above and beyond the call of duty to help the community in which you live? Or do you know someone in your Lodge who has?
There’s a chance for them – or you – to be part of the 2,000-strong team carrying the baton to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games starting on July 28th and ending on August 8th.
The high-tech baton, equipped with a camera to record its journey through more than 70 countries, is already on its way to the West Midlands. Its journey started on October 7th last year, when The Queen placed a message to the Commonwealth into it. The journey will take 294 days to all 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth. As it travels, the Baton is inspiring people to come together and host moments of celebration ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Throughout its journey it will monitor not only the heartbeat of whoever carries it, but also the atmosphere through which it travels, and its colour will change as two people grasp it at every handover.
The Baton has been specially created by designers and technologists from the West Midlands in a unique collaboration that fuses science, technology, engineering and art.

Said Lincolnshire Freemasons’ Communications Officer Stuart Pearcey: “Freemasons do a lot to improve the quality of life for people in the communities in which we live. Nationally we gave almost £1m a week to good causes every week throughout the year. Being Batonbearer is a chance to show the public that we’re here, and what we do.
“I’m sure there are lots of our members who deserve to carry the baton for part of its journey to this historic event, but they’ll have to hurry to get their nominations in; the deadline in Monday 14th February. Wouldn’t you love to be part of such an iconic event?”
