Members of Sleaford’s St Botolph’s Lodge plan to mark the sinking of The Titanic with a memorial dinner recalling the events of the fateful night of April 14th 1912.
It’s being organised by Mike Lock, who said: “I have done this twice before and its was received very well. The entertainers are something very special; one is a composer and concert pianist who many years ago played for Putin. His works have been featured on the BBC and I played his composition ‘We will Remember Them’ at the Menin Gate in October with the Military Wives Choir. I have a singer too who will be on a west end stage before the Festival ends – she is spectacular.”
The themed evening begins when ‘passengers’ receive their boarding passes and their ‘character’ for the evening. Mike added: “There is an accompanying letter from the Chairman and Managing Director of the White Star Line, Mr Joseph Bruce Ismay, which provides will provide important details of embarkation. Passengers will be personally welcomed on board RMS Titanic by Captain Edward Smith.
“During the evening the ship’s bell will toll, and the passengers will witness events as they unfold. They will enjoy an eight course menu in the First Class Dining Room inspired by menus served in the ship’s restaurants on the 14th April 1912, and entertainment will be provided by members of the famous White Star Line Orchestra who will also provide the Evening’s Cabaret.
“Later there will an opportunity to meet some of the famous passengers on board.”
Mike added that ‘Boarding Passes’ for the formal evening were strictly limited, for the black tie event, though ‘passengers’ were encouraged to wear period dress. “That’s very much encouraged, applauded and may even be rewarded,” he said.
