Bright ideas from Lumley Lodge Master Simon Noden have given a significant sum to support Chris Jones on his round-Britain walk in support of the MCF – and he even managed to get a contribution from his employer Clancy.
The money represents a significant milestone for Chris, because it has pushed his fundraising total beyond the £30,000 milestone, which will be boosted still further by the addition of GiftAid, on the way to his objective of collecting £100,000.
Simon, right, contributed a suggestion to the firm’s ‘Ideas Yard’ suggestions scheme, which earned him a £250 reward which went straight into Chris’s pot. Then he was able to get Clancy to match the donation. He said: “My submission into the Clancy Ideas Yard programme of was selected as one the company will look to implement. I chose to give it to Chris’s fundraising page, and what was even better is that Clancy has matched my donation pound for pound and this means my reward has netted £500. What a great start to the year!”
Simon also led the effort to produce a limited edition rum called Rumley. Organist Maurice Ward wanted to buy a bottle, but was disappointed to find that just one bottle remained available on the night of Simon’s installation. However, fate stepped in, and he won it in the raffle, which raised £370 for Chris from the sixty-plus members who were there.
Add that to £250 raised at at Lindsey Lodge, and the cash boost has spurred Chris on to make sure he takes all the necessary medical advice necessary to recover from his foot injury so that he can get back on the road at the earliest opportunity, and complete his 7,000-mile hike.
