Freemasons’ charity donation supports cooking of 150 hot meals for homeless every week

More than 20 Freemasons from Spalding have stepped in to help the NHS deliver the Covid-19 vaccine at the town’s Springfields hub – where they carried on regardless of January’s snow.
All members of the Hundred of Elloe, St. Godric, and Welland Lodges, they’re supporting the NHS by doing stewarding duties at the hub, having volunteered within 48 hours of the pre-Christmas call for help.
Their efforts have brought forward an outpouring of gratitude on social media. One comment ran: “As a nurse, I was so impressed with the service, the incredible volunteers outside in the weather, and how smoothly it ran. Massive thank you to ALL involved.” This was followed by a message from the organisers: “I am so grateful for the Freemasons hard work, sense of fun, and commitment. It has made my job so much easier, and more enjoyable.”
Richard Skells is a member of St. Godric Lodge. He said: “It was my dad’s idea to get us all involved. Mum was already part of the vaccination team, and he saw this as a way of raising the profile of Freemasonry in a positive way, as well as supporting the NHS, and having a good time together in the absence of our regular meetings.” Support will continue to be offered through the vaccination programme.
