Triple celebration for Lincoln’s Royal Ark Mariners
November 6, 2023
When five girls were torpedoed in the Atlantic, little did they know that their ‘adventure’ would help to raise money for Lincolnshire Freemasons five-year fundraising campaign aiming to give £2.25m to charity.
Their story features in the fourth book from the pen of Lindum Lodge member Mick Lake, which chronicles a series of ‘would you believe it’ stories involving Lincoln and the people who live there.
Mick donates all of the royalties from his book sales to charity, and has promised to give to the Festival 100% of money raised between now and the end of the Festival. “I expect that to be at least £1,000,” he said.
The book contains over 70 short stories, and closely follows the format of his first book, Lincoln – True Tales from History. The first book had a strong focus upon extraordinarily tragic events, and this book contains many stories of a similar nature.
However, the new book also has many tales which demonstrate the selfless courage shown by ordinary people whilst going about their daily business.
Says Mick: “The stories are all based in the City of Lincoln, or villages within the surrounding area, with the exception of a small number which describe the remarkable exploits of its citizens whilst travelling in other parts of the world. Every tale in the book is underpinned by meticulous research, and regardless of how bizarre it may seem, each story is completely true.
“The book makes an ideal gift for the ‘difficult-to-buy-for’ person, and I’m happy to provide a signed copy. Email me at saxilbystriker@yahoo.co.uk for further details.”
The books are £8.99 and delivery is free within the Province of Lincolnshire. Discounts are available if you order more than one copy. The books are available on Amazon at this link as a paperback (£8.99) or Kindle E-book (£3.99).
