Lincolnshire Freemasons have built a foundation for letting the public see inside some of our 21 meeting places.
Called the ‘Open Day In A Box’, it’s been developed by Mike Clay and Simon Noden, the Provincial Membership Officer and Assistant Provincial Membership Officer respectively working with Christopher Watkin and others in the Province.
Mike said: “ We’ve sent the package of information around all of our lodges. We’re in no doubt that the information in it will not only answer a host of questions that are bound to come up when open days are discussed, but also provide the confidence to set one up.
“It is of course up to members to decide if they want to go ahead with an event in their centre, but with the ‘Open Day In A Box’ they have the wherewithal and confidence to get planning one off to a flying start.”
“We also have a new video, created by Chris Watkin and available on our YouTube channel here, that gives a snapshot about what we do, and why we do it. It’s well worth a watch,” he added.
The material sent to Lodge secretaries describes everything necessary for staging an open day, from publicising the event to manning it, working our how visitors should move through the building, what to tell them, and following up questions they may want to ask.
Assistant Provincial Grand Master Peter Brooks said: “For several years Freemasonry has been striving to change public perception of what it is and what it does. The ‘Open Day In A Box’ initiative is another step down this road. I hope it will encourage other centres to follow the example of those which have already thrown their doors open to the public by doing the same themselves.”
The ‘Open Day In A Box’ material is available on the members’ area of our web site, under Provincial Resources in the Provincial Info section.
